About Me
It’s a lot of fun being Sam Martinez. But I think the hardest thing in life is focus. Not in the sense of lacking drive or ambition, but there has always been so much I wanted to do and be. I’ve always been and done but never seemed quite satisfied. So I’m learning to be contently disquiet.
My love-passion-job-vocation is as Minister of Students and Young Adults at Dallas First Assembly of God. (I think my official title is Associate Pastor). But I move in some pretty weird circles considering I’m an ordained Assemblies of God minister. I serve on:
- the Task Force of NewFire, an ecumenical network of young adults;
- the Leadership Team of Pentecostal and Charismatics for Peace and Justice;
- the Cabinet (North Dallas Sectional Youth Rep) of the North Texas Youth Ministries (Assemblies of God);
- the Samuel J Martinez Foundation as Chairman and President.
Also, I have a side project with two friends called The Presumptive Podcast (iTunes link), and we discuss politics, pop-culture, religion, and ethics from a progressive pentecostal perspective.
Three other things:
- I’m sartorially delightful.
- I love blackberry cobbler ice cream.
- I had two stalkers, but they haven’t called in a long time. I miss them, truly I do (please call, stalkers!)
ATTENTION! This probably goes without saying: but even though I’m a staff pastor at Dallas First Assembly, what you read and see here is me, pure, complicated, and amazing. Dallas First Assembly doesn’t endorse or pay for these thoughts. You’ve been warned.
